thehappysorceress: grigsbyartpad: “Captain Marvel and the W.A.S.P.S.” Awhile ago, I was listening to the amazingly talented and wonderful Kellysue Deconnick discuss her work on Captain Marvel and the inspirations behind Carol’s new role over on iFanboy. While listening to this great podcast, I discovered we both have a deep rooted love and admiration for WWII fighter pilots and the history surrounding them. She began discussing the role of W.A.S.P.S. (Women Airforce Service PilotS), their bravery and the bullshit they endured during that era in the USA. That interview got me immediately inspired to begin creating this piece in celebration of the strength that our female pilots displayed, and the excellent work and respect Kelly is putting into Carol Danvers. It’s pretty rad Kelly and I both live in Portland and I’ve been able to chat with her about all of this! :) Anywho, if you haven’t been exposed to any of her work yet, check out Kelly’s site here: http://www.kellysue.com/ There are some seriously cool projects slated for you to check out!
